Andreea Arginteanu

Biomedical engineer @ Cardiorec Clinic, Bucharest

Andreea Arginteanu is a biomedical engineer with advanced expertise in the operation, maintenance, certification, and acquisition of complex medical equipment. Her technical skills span a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic systems, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, pulmonary function testing (PFT), and sleep diagnostics (poligraphy and polysomnography).

She currently works at Cardiorec SRL, where she oversees both the functionality and regulatory compliance of all biomedical systems used in clinical practice. Her background also includes hands-on experience in field service engineering, intensive care ventilation systems, and neonatal equipment from leading manufacturers such as Philips, Hill-Rom, and KLS Martin.

Beyond her technical career, Andreea has a long-standing background in professional sports, being a multiple-time national, European, and world champion in karate. She brings this same discipline and precision to her biomedical work, with a growing focus on sleep medicine, AI applications in health systems, and digital health.

At BREATHE 2025, she will share her dual perspective as both an engineer and practitioner, focusing on the flow behind sleep technology and the real-world challenges of biomedical implementation.

Radu Vestemean

Chief Information Architect @ NirvSystem Corporation, Canada

Radu is a Ph.D.-qualified software engineer and a certified blockchain architect who brings together a deep technical foundation with extensive experience leading large-scale, cross-functional teams. His work spans startups, public healthcare institutions, and academic collaborations.
Through his long-standing partnership with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine, Radu has played a pivotal role in the development of medical school accreditation platforms, contributing to improved educational standards and operational efficiency. His contributions are recognized through publications by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and his participation in the design of ISO standards for healthcare education, led by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC, USA).
Currently, Radu manages credentialing systems for over 27 hospitals in Ontario and serves on the boards of several AI startups, where he helps shape strategic innovation in digital health. He is also the holder of three blockchain-related patents.
As an AI educator for Ontario government agencies, Radu is at the forefront of applying artificial intelligence in the public sector. His career is defined by a unique ability to bridge advanced technologies with healthcare innovation, making him a trusted leader in digital transformation, AI deployment, and IT governance.

Mara Vultur

Specialist in Pulmonology @ Targu Mureș County Clinical Hospital

Dr. Mara Andreea Vultur is a dedicated pulmonologist, lecturer, and clinical researcher at the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology “George Emil Palade” of Târgu Mureș, where she is also pursuing a PhD in respiratory medicine. As a Specialist in Pulmonology at Mureș County Clinical Hospital, she is actively engaged in both patient care and academic mentorship.

Dr. Vultur’s clinical expertise spans interstitial lung diseases, functional pulmonary testing, sleep-disordered breathing, and non-invasive ventilation, while her academic contributions include co-authoring multiple national pneumology textbooks and chapters, especially on pleural diagnostics, respiratory rehabilitation, and polygraphy.

A frequent lecturer at national and university-level courses, Dr. Vultur is known for translating complex respiratory concepts into accessible, evidence-based learning. She has also participated in Erasmus+ exchanges in ophthalmology and cardiology and earned recognition as first author or corresponding author in numerous peer-reviewed articles, including those indexed in ISI and BDI.

Demetrios A. Spandidos

Professor Emeritus @ Medical School of the University of Crete

Professor Demetrios A. Spandidos is a world-renowned leader in molecular oncology, biochemistry, and genetics, whose groundbreaking work has shaped modern understanding of cellular oncogenes and gene transfer technologies. He holds degrees from prestigious institutions including a PhD in Biochemistry from McGill University and a DSc in Genetics from the University of Glasgow, and he is a Professor Emeritus at the Medical School of the University of Crete in Greece.

Professor Spandidos is a Fellow of numerous esteemed scientific societies, including the Royal Society of Pathology, Royal Society of Health, American Society of Angiology, and Academia Europaea. He has received Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca, and his academic journey includes teaching and research roles in Greece, Japan, the USA, China, and beyond.

With over 1,000 published scientific articles, 9 authored books, and the founding of 12 international journals under Spandidos Publications, his contribution to scientific publishing is equally transformative. He has also organized over 60 international conferences, fostering global collaboration in biomedical science.

Ciprian Sturz

Consultant Pulmonologist @ Rehabilitation Clinical Hospital in Cluj-Napoca

Dr Ciprian Sturz is a committed and experienced pulmonologist with clinical and academic experience focused on interventional bronchoscopy and thoracic oncology. He holds complementary certifications in sleep medicine and general ultrasound, a Master Degree in Interventional Bronchoscopy (University of Florence, Italy) and he recently completed two years of advanced studies in Interventional Bronchoscopy (University of Saint-Etienne, France). He currently serves as a Consultant Pulmonologist at Rehabilitation Clinical Hospital in Cluj-Napoca, with a career that includes also medical practice in France. Dr Sturz is an active member of some professional societies (such as ERS, SPLF, SRP, GETIF, EABIP and WABIP ) with oral presentations at national and international conferences.
At Breathe 2025, Dr. Sturz’s presentation will touch on several clinically relevant aspects of the endoscopic approach to peripheral lung tumors.

Marina Dascăl

Associate Professor @ Department of Public Health, Babeș-Bolyai University

Marina Dascăl is a public health researcher, university lecturer, and behavioral science expert, known for her multidisciplinary work on health communication, smoking cessation, and well-being interventions. She currently serves as an Associate Professor and Researcher at the Department of Public Health, Babeș-Bolyai University, and has collaborated with national and international institutions, including Harvard Medical School, UNICEF, and NIH.

With a background in public and clinical health psychology, Dr. Dascăl has led or contributed to numerous studies and programs focusing on maternal health, tobacco cessation during pregnancy, digital health tools, and cultural interventions for burnout and mental well-being. She was selected for Forbes Romania’s 30 under 30, recognizing her as a leading young innovator in the field.

Dr. Dascăl’s recent work includes the “Quit Together” study, a pioneering randomized trial for couples-based smoking cessation during pregnancy, and large-scale assessments of mHealth interventions. She brings a unique voice that blends academic rigor with societal relevance and empathetic health communication.

At Breathe 2025, she will share her expertise on how behavior change strategies and digital tools can reshape respiratory and preventive care, with a strong focus on patient-centered, community-based innovation.

Anda Gâta

Assistant Lecturer @ University of Medicine and Pharmacy 'Iuliu Hatieganu'

Dr. Anda Gâta is a highly specialized otorhinolaryngologist and academic, with a focus on rhinology, skull base surgery, and chronic rhinosinusitis. She currently practices in both the public and private sectors in Cluj-Napoca, and is engaged in academic work at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hațieganu”.

With clinical experience gained in France and Romania, Dr. Gâta is currently pursuing her PhD on prognostic factors in chronic rhinosinusitis, under the guidance of Prof. Silviu Albu. She is also an active member and group coordinator within the Young CEORL-HNS and has participated in numerous prestigious international surgical training programs across Europe.

Her research bridges clinical innovation and molecular biology, with a strong publication record on topics such as endoscopic sinus surgery, cerebrospinal fluid leak repair, microRNA biomarkers, and machine learning in chronic sinus conditions. She has received several awards and fellowships, including a European Rhinologic Society Fellowship and podium recognition at CEORL-HNS.

At Breathe 2025, Dr. Gâta will present her latest work on Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE): Technique, Indications, Tips and Pitfalls.

Krystian Bartczak

Senior Assistant @ Norbert Barlicki Memorial Hospital No. 1 in Łódź

Dr. Krystian Bartczak is a rising academic and clinical expert in pulmonary medicine, with a strong focus on post-COVID lung complications, interstitial lung diseases, and telemedicine integration. He currently serves as a Senior Assistant at the Pulmonology and Allergology Department of Norbert Barlicki Memorial Hospital No. 1 in Łódź, and as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the Medical University of Łódź.

With an MD and ongoing PhD studies, Dr. Bartczak is actively contributing to the field of respiratory medicine through peer-reviewed research and clinical innovation. His published work explores critical areas like telemedicine for post-COVID recovery, pulmonary epigenetics, and the phenotypic variability of long COVID, earning recognition in journals such as Biomedicines, Scientific Reports, and Molecular Diagnosis & Therapy.

Fluent in English and actively involved in teaching, he is also deeply engaged in the evolving landscape of non-invasive ventilation, interventional pulmonology, and lung fibrosis.

At Breathe 2025, Dr. Bartczak will speak on the management of pleural infections – the meaning of skill and timing.
