Biography
Prof. Dr. Florin Dumitru Mihălțan is one of Romania's most prominent figures in respiratory medicine, with an extensive career spanning clinical care, academic leadership, and public health advocacy. He currently serves as Senior Pneumologist at the Marius Nasta Institute of Pneumophtisiology, Head of the Pneumology Department (II) at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and President of the Romanian Society of Pneumology. Internationally recognised, he is President of the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP), Romania's national GOLD and GINA representative, and a Council Member of the SPLF. He is an active member of ERS, ATS, CHEST, and the ENSP Board. Prof. Mihălțan is a prolific author with over 500 published articles and 20 books, covering critical topics such as sleep disorders, respiratory failure, smoking cessation, and prevention strategies. His expertise on tobacco-related lung disease has expanded in recent years to encompass the respiratory impact of heated tobacco products and electronic cigarettes.
