Tudor Toma

Consultant Respiratory Physician @ National Health Service, London

Dr. Tudor Toma is a Romanian-born pulmonologist and researcher with over two decades of experience in interventional bronchoscopy, airway diagnostics, and acute respiratory care. He graduated from the University of Medicine in Iași, Romania, in 1993, and trained as a pulmonology resident while working as a university assistant in the Department of Pulmonology in Iași.

In 2000, Dr. Toma moved to London, joining the prestigious Royal Brompton Hospital at Imperial College, University of London, where he completed his PhD in Interventional Bronchoscopy. His doctoral thesis introduced the first minimally invasive endoscopic treatment for emphysema – endoscopic lung volume reduction.

Since 2007, he has been practicing as a Consultant Respiratory Physician in London, with a special focus on complex diagnostic challenges in airway diseases, particularly using bedside ultrasound and advanced bronchoscopy techniques.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Toma was actively involved in acute care units, gaining extensive experience in managing COVID pneumonia and post-COVID complications.

Beyond the clinical setting, he is a strong advocate for medical communication, serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Romanian Journal of Pulmonology and contributing to evidence-based public education in both Romania and the Romanian community in the UK.

At Breathe 2025, Dr. Toma will present on Lung volume reduction in COPD, bridging innovation and frontline experience.
